YORKTOWN — Local author Catherine Clark Felts is partnering with Texas Roadhouse to host a Dine to Donate event Dec. 1 to support Ella’s Way.

Ella’s Way is a nonprofit dedicated to promoting kindness and encouraging the acceptance of differences as young children form their first friendships. The organization donates children’s picture books designed to spark age-appropriate conversations about kindness, empathy and diversity. The books are created by a group of approximately 35 collaborative authors — including Felts — who share a commitment to fostering compassion in young readers.

“Introducing the concepts of diversity and disability to the preschooler sets the stage for long-term acceptance of differences, which is the key to bullying prevention,” Ella’s Way says on its website.

During this collaboration, 10% of all meal purchases will be donated to Ella’s Way when guests dine.

“My youngest daughter has a difference. She has a slight difference that’s noticeable to a lot of people,” Felts said about her desire to partner with Ella’s Way and Texas Roadhouse. “She’s only three right now, but as she gets older, it’s going to be a tough road for her, and what I can do as an author, as a children’s book author, and as a collaboritve author with Ella’s Way, is try and promote kindness and promote anti-bullying and getting books into children’s hands early on to hopefully prevent some of the challenges and hardships she’s going to potentially face in the future.”

Once the event funds are received, Ella’s Way will deliver a book donation package to a local school, church, hospital, or community organization that would benefit from books promoting kindness and diversity.

Felts will be at Texas Roadhouse during the event for anyone interested in purchasing her children’s books, and 10% of all book sales that evening will also benefit Ella’s Way.

The event takes place from 5-9 p.m. Dec. 1 at the Texas Roadhouse on 109 Cybernetics Way in Yorktown. For more information about Ella’s Way, visit the official website.
