Mark Gordon Delaney, born on July 13, 1958, in Buffalo, New York, passed away peacefully at the age of 68 on August 28, 2026, in Virginia Beach, Virginia. He was surrounded by those he held most dear.
Mark graduated from the University at Buffalo with a degree in Business Management and Finance. He began his banking career in Buffalo, NY, but when he moved to Virginia Beach, his love of the water took him down a different path: marine finance. Mark continued to gain knowledge of the marine lending industry while working for, and eventually setting up, marine finance departments for various lending institutions. He then took the leap of faith and opened his own marine lending company, which he successfully ran for over 30 years. His extensive knowledge of boats, combined with his sharp financial mind, made him an expert in the field.
Mark loved his family and friends beyond measure. He enjoyed traveling and exploring new places with his wife and two daughters, and he gladly included friends on their adventures. Mark also loved to advise young minds on potential career paths; he was continually inspired by new business opportunities and loved to share his ideas.
Mark was a field hockey coach for both of his daughters’ middle school teams, leading them to several championship seasons. He later took over a lacrosse club team at First Colonial High School. With the help of several dedicated volunteer coaches, he played an instrumental role in turning a club team into an official girls’ high school varsity sport. He was also an active member of Galilee Episcopal Church and Trinity Church, where he found deep community and spiritual fulfillment.
He is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Robert and Ethel Delaney, and his sweet niece, Megan Delaney. Mark leaves behind his cherished wife of 42 years, Camille Delaney; his two loving daughters, Jordan Delaney Sayoc and her husband, Jonathan Sayoc, and Miranda Delaney and her husband, Mitchell Fallon; as well as his treasured granddaughters, Charlotte and Carter Rose Sayoc. He is also survived by his dear brother, David Delaney; his beloved nieces, Colleen (Ryan) and Anne; and many beautiful cousins and lifelong friends. His memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
A memorial service to honor Mark’s life will be held on Friday, September 4, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at Galilee Episcopal Church, located at 3928 Pacific Avenue, Virginia Beach.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
