John Turnage, age 65, passed away unexpectedly on August 17, 2026.

He leaves behind a family and community who loved him deeply and will miss him dearly.

John owned a local welding shop, where he spent many years putting his skill, determination, and strong work ethic into everything he did. He took great pride in his work and in the business he built earning the respect of all those who knew him.

Outside of work, John had a passion for racing and especially enjoyed spending time at Langley Speedway. The sights, sounds, and excitement of the track were a favorite part of his life, and he loved being there whenever he could.

He will be remembered for his hardworking spirit, his pride in his craft, his love of racing, and most of all, his devotion to his family.

Although his life ended far sooner than anyone expected, the impact he made on those around him will live on through the family he loved, the work he built, and the memories he leaves behind.

John was preceded in death by his beloved first wife, Eileen Flynn Turnage, and his parents, Troy “Rudy” Turnage and Audrey “Peggy” Turnage.

He leaves behind a loving family to cherish his memory, including his beloved wife, Susan Kontovich Turnage; his daughter Katie Hazelwood (Sean), grandchildren Hayden and Colin; son Troy Turnage (Holly), grandchildren Drew, and Scarlett; stepson, Bryan McClure (Gabby), step-grandchildren, Logan and Walden; stepson Timothy McClure; and stepdaughter Sara McClure (Brett), grandchildren Ellie, Chase, Cohen and Cason; and his dear sister, Brenda Schatzel (Leo).

Visitation will be held on Friday August 28, 2026 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Vincent Funeral Home, 9923 Pocahontas Trail, Providence Forge, VA 23140

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at 11:00 am at Peninsula Memorial Park, 12750 Warwick Blvd, Newport News, VA 23606.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to New Kent Humane Society.
