Yvonne Creel Richardson (Weymouth Funeral Home & Crematory)

Yvonne Creel Richardson, 71, of Cobbs Creek, Virginia, passed away on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at Riverside Walter Reed Hospital. Born in Newport News, Virginia, she was the daughter of Thurmond D. Creel and Helen Reynolds, and sister to Theresa Dunn, all of whom preceded her in death.

Yvonne grew up in Newport News and attended both Warwick and Menchville High Schools, proudly graduating from Menchville in 1973. In 1983, she married Harold Dean Richardson, beginning a life together that took them briefly to California before settling in Cobbs Creek, where they built a home filled with love for the next 38 years.

Over the course of her life, Yvonne worked in several roles that reflected her dedication and strong work ethic, including positions with the U.S. Post Office, Fort Eustis, Newport News Shipyard, and Lee Jackson Elementary School. No matter where she worked, she was known for her kindness, reliability, and steady presence.

Yvonne’s greatest joys were found in the simple, meaningful parts of life. Horses held a special place in her heart, and with her land in Mathews she was able to care for two beloved horses for many years, even taking riding lessons when she could. She adored her dogs, each one becoming a cherished member of the family. A talented potter, Yvonne created beautiful hand‑thrown pieces that her family will treasure forever.

She had a deep love for gardening. Yvonne delighted in growing flowers, tending her plants with patience and care, and filling her home and yard with color. Her gardens were a reflection of her spirit — warm, vibrant, and full of life.

She also loved reading and had remarkable patience for 3,000‑piece jigsaw puzzles, which she completed with quiet determination.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Harold Richardson, and her children: Lacey Jenkins (Andrew), Frances Burcher (David), Jennifer Baum (Sonny), Daniel Richardson (Dorothy), and Jason Richardson; her sister, Debbie (Gary) and brother, Jonathan (Vicky).

She leaves behind a large and loving family of grandchildren: Christopher (Faith), Tristan (Donatella), Ethan, Alexsia (Beau), David (Nico), Bobby (Krystal), Kelseay (Joe), Braydyn (Chloe), Emily, Maslin, Spencer (Taylor), Brittney (Chris), Justin (Katelynn), Kaitlyn (Brandon), Brandon, Madison, and Nathan.

She was also blessed with great‑grandchildren: Nevaeh, Athena, Aries, Julian, Hayden, and Lily.

Yvonne’s life was defined by love for her family, her animals, her crafts, and the quiet joys that made her days full. Her legacy lives on in the many people who were shaped by her warmth, creativity, and steady spirit.
