William Roy Dean, affectionately known as Bill, passed away peacefully on July 10, 2026, in Williamsburg, Virginia, at the age of 90. Born on April 30, 1936, in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, Bill led a life rich with love, service, and creativity.
Bill was a man of many talents and passions, dedicating his life to helping others and expressing himself through his artistic craftsmanship. As a self-employed business owner in home repairs, he poured his skill and dedication into each project, providing quality work to all who entrusted him with their homes. His talents extended beyond his professional life; Bill had an exceptional gift for woodworking and carpentry, crafting beautiful furniture pieces that became treasured family heirlooms. His creations, enriched with his love, will continue to hold cherished places in the hearts and homes of his family.
A man of unwavering faith, Bill most recently attended Liberty Baptist Church. During his years as a member of the United Methodist Church, he faithfully taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, and took part in numerous church productions. His love for music, teaching, and serving others touched many lives and reflected the deep faith that guided him throughout his life.
Bill’s generous spirit extended into his community through his volunteer work. He served as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), always ready to lend a helping hand in times of need. Additionally, he dedicated time to Meals on Wheels, ensuring that those in need received nourishment and companionship.
His home was a place of warmth and welcome, often filled with the laughter and chatter of family. Bill took great pleasure in creating special memories with his grandchildren, teaching them the art of woodworking and sharing his passion for antiques and refinishing. He also delighted in preparing beloved family recipes, bringing everyone together around the dining table.
Preceded in death by his mother, father, and sister, Bill leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication. He is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia “Pat” Dean, and his children—Brad (Kathy) Dean, Kim (Jack) Richardson, and Saben Strawser. He was a proud grandfather to Brittany (Chris) McKinnon, Jack Richardson, Dustin (Stephanie) Dean, Jordan (Alyssa) Richardson, Jenna (Paul) Bandstra, Jonathon Dean, and David Christian Dean, and a doting great-grandfather to nine great-grandchildren.
Bill’s life was a testament to the power of love, faith, and hard work. His memory will continue to inspire those who knew him, and his spirit will live on in the hearts of his family and friends, forever echoing the values he held dear.
