Genevieve “Gen” Hoyt (nee Falle), 99, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 28, 2026 at her residence in the Hamilton Assisted Living facility in Yorktown, Virginia.
She was surrounded by her loved ones, including her loving husband, Kenneth Hoyt, 98. They were married for 78 years.
She was born in Highland Park, Michigan, the only child of Antoinette and Joseph Falle. She graduated from Monroe High School in Monroe, Michigan, in 1944 and then worked as a bookkeeper for the Monroe Water Department for several years. She married the love of her life, Kenneth “Ken” Hoyt, in 1948.
Gen dedicated her life to her husband, raising their daughter, Chris and son, Mike. She loved to travel throughout the US, Canada and Europe. She made detailed scrapbooks documenting family history and enjoyed playing cards with family and friends. She was a great cook, a skill she passed down to her family. She also worked as a teacher’s aide for special education children for 10 years in the Farmington Hills, Michigan school district. She was an avid Detroit sports fan. As a first-generation American, Gen was very proud of her Slovenian heritage. She was a talented seamstress and loved to play the piano in her spare time.
Gen is survived by her husband, Kenneth; her daughter, Christine Alaniz (Chuck); her son, Michael Hoyt (Catherine); her grandchildren, Melissa Mendias (Arturo), Libbey York (Tommy), Sarah Clapp (Bob), Andrew Hoyt (Paige), Eric Alaniz (Ashley) and Mary Catherine Kemp (Robbie), as well as 10 great-grandchildren. Gen and her quick sense of humor will be greatly missed by family and friends alike.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations to be made to Upending Parkinsons or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
