Steven Mark Peters, 59, a resident of Gloucester, VA, passed away on Wednesday, June 24, 2026.
He was born in 1967 to Joseph Francis Peters and Margaret Mary (Penniston) Peters at the McDonald Army Hospital, Ft. Eustis, VA. As a military dependent he followed his parents throughout the United States and Europe. After 12 years, Steve returned to make Virginia his home when his dad left the military.
As an adult, Steve attended the Apprentice School at Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock Company and later graduated as a nuclear pipe welder. He was exceptional in his field; it was said that “he could weld two pork chops together with a hot dog”. He took his expertise into the commercial world and worked as a boilermaker for a local mechanical company. At times he struggled with personal problems. During this time, he discerned that Jesus Christ was giving him a mission of service to others. He spent his final years helping many other people and never met a stranger.
Steve was outgoing, charming, and always the life of the party. When he was born his mother saw a twinkle in his eye and said, “this one is going to be trouble”. This turned out to be the truth as his adventurous ways were always keeping her on her toes. He had a great love for the outdoors and could befriend any animal he saw. He loved sports, especially fishing, and was excellent in all of them. No pizza was ever safe around him.
Steve was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret Mary Peters. He is survived by his father, Joseph Francis Peters; his brother, Daniel Joseph Peters; his wife, Carey Webb-Peters, and his son, Seth Albert Peters.
A Mass of the Resurrection will be performed at St. Jerome’s Catholic Church, Newport News, at a later date to be announced.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made, in his name, to the American Heart Association, or to a charitable organization of your choice.
