Kimberly Elaine Brown-Smith, age 48, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 29, 2026, in the comfort of her home. She was a loving mother, devoted daughter, cherished grandmother, passionate sister, and dear friend to many.
Born in Williamsburg, Virginia, Kimberly lived a life full of love, laughter, and kindness. She was known for her amazing cooking skills, warm hospitality, willingness to lend a shoulder to cry on, and unwavering generosity.
Kimberly attended Chowan University, where she pursued a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. Throughout her career, she worked as a bank teller at Bank of America, served as a financial literacy advisor with World Financial Group, and proudly owned and operated her own catering business, Kimberly Kulture Kreations.
In her free time, Kim enjoyed helping others and found solace and joy in the simple moments spent with family and friends. She was an avid fan of elephants, hearts, and butterflies, which reflected her gentle and caring spirit.
Kimberly joins those who went before her, including her great-grandparents, Elder Luverta Jones and Missionary Lottie Jones; her grandmother, Flossie Davis; her sister, Takarole Brown; and her beloved nephew, Riley Scantlebury.
Kim will be dearly missed by her mother, Tabitha Brown-Kinard; father, Edward Brown Sr.; grandparents, Rose Corbin-Brown and Edward Brown Sr.; aunt, Eletha Davis-Bartlett; sisters, Tanesha Brown, Kristy Brown, Stephanie Beeson, Charity Johnson, Carolyn Brown, Kandace Bond, Caitlyn Brown, and Marissa Wilson; brothers, Darron Johnson, Isaiah Wilson, Edward Brown Jr., and Edwin Brown; daughters, Chrissney Garner, Kirsten James, and Kendall Smith; grandchildren, Malachia Garner and Messiah Garner; pet grandbabies, Wale and Milo; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Kimberly touched the lives of many and will be remembered for her kindness, compassion, generosity, and gentle spirit. Her legacy of love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 6, 2026, at Whiting’s Funeral Home. Interment to follow in Oak Grove Cemetery. Ms. Smith may be viewed in the funeral home on Friday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
