Douglas “Doug” James Carnes, 76, of Newport News, Virginia passed away on May 28, 2025. Born October 29, 1949 in Norwalk, Connecticut, he was preceded in death by his mother, Nancy Carnes and his father, James Carnes.
Doug joined the United States Air Force, serving during the Vietnam War. Doug retired after 20 years of service to his country.
Doug was an active member of the Menchville Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing, baseball, scripture, country westerns, and older TV shows (i.e. MASH). He loved his relationship with Jesus Christ, his wife, and his children.
Doug is survived by his wife, Colleen Margaret Carnes; sons, Sean Michael Carnes (Chrissy Barton) and Aaron Stephen Carnes (Starr Penix); daughter, Heather Ann Phillips; grandchild, Brandon (Doug called him “L.B.” for Little Boy); siblings, Nancy Jean Facciolo and Scott Duncan Carnes; and his beloved pets, Mr. Bean and Nash.
A visitation will be held at Menchville Baptist Church, 248 Menchville Rd, Newport News, Virginia on June 2, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. A funeral service with military honors will follow at 12:00 PM at the church.
