Dalton Elswood Williams, Jr., born on January 5, 1949, in Virginia Beach, Virginia, passed away peacefully in Knotts Island, North Carolina. His unwavering commitment to service and family defined his life, leaving a legacy of dedication and strength.
Dalton honorably served his country, completing two tours in Vietnam with the U.S. Army and continuing his service with the National Guard, totaling thirteen years of distinguished military service. Following his military career, he contributed his skills as a civil service aircraft sheet metal mechanic, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues and friends alike.
Dalton was preceded in death by his parents, Dalton Elswood Williams Sr. and Florence Williams Flanagan; his first wife, Pauline Hazel Williams; his second wife, Paulette Freeman Williams; and his brother, Edward Lee Williams.
He is lovingly remembered by his surviving family: his son Bobby Garris and wife Kimberly and Carol, and son Darrell Williams; five grandchildren, Edward Garris, Tiffany Sasway, Brett Garris, Skyla Carleton, and Grace Hale; sister, Judy Waterfield; and brother, Robert A. Williams. Dalton’s presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his spirit will endure in the hearts of his family and friends.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, May 22, 2026 at 11:00 am at Knotts Island Cemetery at 445 Woodleigh Rd., Knotts Island, North Carolina 27950. Family and friends are invited to attend and celebrate his life and legacy. Reception to follow.
