On May 7, 2026, the world bid farewell to William Lett Bailey, Jr., a beloved and devoted husband, father, and friend who passed away of natural causes in Norfolk, Virginia.
Born on June 14, 1950, in Virginia, William, also known as Beetle, lived a fulfilling life of 75 years, during which he inspired countless individuals with his kindness, humor, and unwavering faith.
William proudly served his community as a Police Officer for the Virginia Port Authority Police. His career was marked by discipline, honor, and an unwavering dedication to protecting the community he deeply cherished.
Beetle wasn’t a typical man of faith; he preferred to move to the beat of his own drum.
Aside from his professional dedication, Beetle truly embraced life in its many facets. He had an endearing habit of giving those he knew and loved a hard time, displaying a sharp wit and tremendous sense of humor that left enduring marks on all who knew him. Collaborating with his beloved wife, Martha, on business ventures and involving himself in various hands-on projects, particularly cutting gemstones, were other passions that showcased his creative spirit and boundless energy.
Beetle was preceded in death by his parents, William and Charlotte, who shaped him into the remarkable man he became. He leaves behind his loving wife, Martha, his son Billy; granddaughter Taylor; his brothers George and Robert (Mim); sister Theresa (Bill) , and many other adoring family members and dear friends whose lives he enriched. His legacy of love, dedication, and insight lives on in them.
Though services are pending at this time, we encourage all who knew Beetle to reflect on the countless memories he shared and the laughter he inspired. We are grateful to William for gifting us all with his knowledge, wisdom, and humor during the time we were privileged to have him with us. His life was a testament to resilience, service, and love, reminding us all of the impact one person can have on the world.
