Dr. David Lee Parks Sr., a loving husband, devoted father, cherished grandfather, and compassionate physician, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2026, in Newport News, Virginia at the age of 64. Born on June 5, 1961, in Owensboro, Kentucky, David led a life dedicated to his family, his community, and the care of those in need.
David’s journey in medicine began with his education at Western Kentucky University, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree. He pursued his passion for healing and completed his Doctor of Medicine at the University of Louisville School of Medicine. Furthering his expertise, David attained an MBA from the Vanderbilt University Owen Graduate School of Management.
Throughout his esteemed career, David served as a dedicated physician, bringing comfort and care to countless individuals. He worked tirelessly as an Emergency Department physician, supporting multiple communities with unwavering commitment. Later in his career, David found his true calling as a Hospice and Palliative Medical Director, providing solace to patients and their families during their most challenging times.
Beyond his professional achievements, David was a man of diverse interests and deep compassion. He relished cheering on the Saint Louis Cardinals and treasured the time spent playing with his two grandsons. A passionate traveler, David loved taking trips with his family, especially to Disney World, creating lasting memories filled with joy and laughter. Whether enjoying a nice cup of coffee while reading a book or engaging in a family game night, David cherished every moment shared with his loved ones.
David’s generous spirit extended beyond his immediate community. He participated in numerous medical mission trips to Honduras and Nicaragua, bringing hope and healing to communities in need.
Preceded in death by his father, Charles Edward Parks Sr.; mother, Dorothy Coffey Parks; and brother-in-law, Philip Gold, David leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Mercer Parks; daughter, Jessica Parks Arnold; son, David Lee Parks Jr.; daughter, Sarah Martine Parks-Massey; son-in-law, Andrew David Arnold; daughter-in-law, Natalie Anderson Parks; son-in-law, Corey Mitchell Massey; grandsons, Benjamin David Arnold and Charles Mercer Arnold; brother, Charles Edward Parks Jr. and sister-in-law, Susan Parks; sister-in-law, Beverly Ann Gold; and numerous loving family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
A visitation will be held at Bucktrout Funeral Home on May 16th from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, followed by a funeral ceremony at 4:00 PM to honor David’s remarkable life.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to your local Hospice, in recognition of David’s enduring commitment to the compassionate care of others.
David’s memory will forever be cherished by those who knew and loved him.
