Kathleen Kiggins Pietrasanta, 75, of Newport News, Virginia, passed away on Sunday, May 3, 2026, following a brief yet courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. She was known for her kindness, wisdom, and gentle spirit, which touched the lives of many.
Born in 1950 to Betty and James Kiggins, Kathleen grew up in the South Hills of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and later graduated from Chartiers Valley High School. A lifelong learner, she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in French and Education from Thiel College, two Master of Education Degrees in Elementary and Special Education from Edinboro University, and an Education Specialist Degree from George Washington University. She also achieved distinction as a Board‑Certified Coach and a licensed Reiki Master.
Kathleen began her career as a kindergarten teacher in Meadville, Pennsylvania. After moving to Virginia, she devoted 30 years to Newport News Public Schools, serving as a teacher, administrator, and leader in staff development. Guided by a deep love of learning and service, she continued to share her wisdom in retirement as an Improvement Coach and Professional Development Consultant.
Her faith was a guiding light throughout her life and was reflected in her deep involvement in her church and community. Kathleen also cherished the arts, culture, and travel, always seeking beauty, meaning, and connection. A generous benefactor, she shared her time and resources with charities and environmental groups, striving to make the world a better place.
She is survived by her sisters, Christine Kiggins of Portland, Oregon, and Colette (Bradley) Goepfert of Economy Borough, Pennsylvania, and by her beloved niece, Madeline Goepfert, with whom she shared a special and enduring bond.
Her thoughtful conversations, spiritual insight, and quiet wisdom remain a lasting testament to a life beautifully lived. In Kathleen’s memory, donations may be made to THRIVE Peninsula or The Nature Conservancy.
A Memorial Service honoring Kathleen will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 6812 River Road, Newport News, VA. Arrangements by Weymouth Funeral Home.
