Garry Nathaniel Banks Sr., age 68, of Williamsburg, Virginia, passed away on April 27, 2026. Born and raised in Williamsburg, Garry lived a full and vibrant life surrounded by family, laughter, and his many passions.
Garry proudly served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged. Following his military service, he became known as a hardworking and versatile man—a true jack of all trades—working in various roles over the years.
He had a deep love for sports, especially cheering on his longtime favorite team, the Dallas Cowboys. Garry also enjoyed cooking, watching old Westerns, and most importantly, spending time with his family. He was passionate, outspoken, and never shied away from a good debate—always ready to stand his ground and prove his point.
Garry was preceded in death by his parents, Flossie and Leroy Banks.
He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Althea Roberts; children, Garry Banks Jr. and Nathaniel Banks; step-sons, Craig Benbow, Bruce Harris, and Joseph Pearson; his grandchildren, Mira Reign Banks and Aiyanna Rae Banks; and a host of nieces and nephews, including Danielle James, Mack Spratley Jr., LaMar Banks, Patrice Banks, La’Nea Banks, and Cameron Howard-Banks.
Garry lived life boldly, spoke his mind freely, and loved his family deeply. Though he may be gone from our sight, his spirit, laughter, and presence will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
A service to celebrate Garry’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at Whiting’s Funeral Home. Interment with military honors to follow in Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Mr. Banks may be viewed from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
