Larry Brent Jones, 82, born in Newport News, Virginia, went to be with the lord on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.

Larry was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, GiGi Daddy, brother, uncle and friend. He loved his family deeply.

He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 60 years, Linda; his daughter, Traci Ratliff and her husband, Bubba; his son, Brent Jones and his wife, Courtney; his grandchildren, Casey, Hayley (Martin), Paityn, Parker and Jaida; and his great-granddaughters, Haidyn and Olivia. He is also survived by his brother, Dale Jones and his wife, Judy, along with many extended family members and special friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Joe Jones; his mother, Nancy Jones; his brother, Bruce Jones; and his great-grandson, Owen.

Larry graduated from Hampton High School in 1963. After graduation, he was hired by Newport News Shipbuilding in the Electrical Department, where he worked for two and a half years. He later began a career in Civil Service with the Naval Weapons Station in Yorktown in the Supply Department, retiring after 28 years of service. His final employment was at Cheatham Annex in Williamsburg in the Shipping and Receiving department, where he worked until his retirement in December 2019.

Larry was a faithful member of Denbigh Christian Church since 1974. He loved his church very much and served the Lord there as a deacon for 25 years, treasurer for 15 years, trustee for many years, and custodian for 5 years.

Most Saturdays, you could find Larry and Brent at the Jefferson Flea Market, local yard sales, and thrift stores. He kept a mental list of items family and friends asked him to look for. Among his favorite hobbies and collections were baseball cards, 45 RPM records, stamp collecting and miniature pewter figurines.

A celebration of Larry’s life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at Denbigh Christian Church, 816 Moyer Rd, Newport News, VA 23608.

The family would like to thank Heartland Hospice, especially Jenna, for her loving care.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Denbigh Christian Church in Larry’s memory.
