Martha Marie McGilvary Johnson, the daughter of the late Walter McGilvary Sr. and Willie Mae Blue McGilvary, was born on November 12, 1937, in West Point, VA. Martha departed this life on March 10, 2026.
Martha was employed by the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation for over twenty years and by the Ramada Inn for fifteen years as a manager in food and banquets.
She loved her family and friends. No matter the cost, she was there for anyone; that’s the type of mother she was. She was a real person and always stayed true to herself. She loved sewing, cooking, and being comical, and she was very smart. Martha was a fashion queen and would dress from head to toe.
She was also a godly mother and loved Jesus. As a faithful member at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, she served as a Pastor’s aide for many years, until she became sick.
Martha was also preceded in death by her husband, Leroy Johnson Jr.; children, William “Bubba” Alexander Johnson and Sylvia Johnson; and siblings, Nathaniel McGilvary, Mason McGilvary, Walter McGilvary Jr., Robert Lee McGilvary, Willie Ward McGilvary, Janie McGilvary Green, Jean McGilvary, Bellamy Lavenia McGilvary Jennings, Monroe McGilvary Sr., and Hugh McGilvary Sr.
She leaves to cherish her memories her children, Leroy Johnson III (Linda), Sabrina Johnson, Dora Dandridge, Angela Epps, Blanche Johnson, Waleea Campbell (Bryan), Everette Johnson (Susie Johnson), and Warren Johnson; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.
