Christopher Dwire (Altmeyer Funeral Home)

Christopher “Chris” Dwire, born May 19, 1990, in Newport News, Virginia, passed away peacefully in his hometown on February 23, 2026, at the age of 35.

A gentle soul, Chris spent his professional career as a dedicated attendant with Newport News Parks and Recreation, where he was known for his warm smile and unwavering commitment to enhancing the community’s outdoor spaces. His passion for nature extended beyond his work; he was a cyclist and hiker, often exploring the trails and parks he cherished so dearly.

As a teenager, Chris was actively involved with the Boy Scouts and enjoyed playing soccer where he cultivated friendships and a steadfast dedication to service and leadership. After high school, he attended TNCC. Some of his happiest memories were made canoeing, fishing, frogging, and hiking alongside his grandparents. Those adventure-filled days on the water and in the woods helped shape his enduring love for nature and remain treasured memories for all who shared them.

Chris was also a gifted conversationalist who enjoyed playing cribbage and engaging in peer group counseling. His love for video games provided him with countless hours of entertainment and camaraderie with friends old and new.

Chris is survived by his loving parents, Owen and Carol Dwire; his beloved sister, Abigail Weitzel, and brother-in-law, Spencer Weitzel. He will be remembered for his kindness, quick wit, gentle spirit, and adventurous heart.

Though Chris’s time with us was far too brief, he leaves behind a legacy of joy, laughter, and love that will be cherished by all who knew him.
