Betty “Kay” Caminade, age 84, passed away peacefully at home on January 16, 2026, surrounded by her loved ones.
She was born in Long Branch, West Virginia and lived most of her adult life in Hampton, VA. She worked as an RN for the Veterans Affairs Hospital until retiring in 2006. She dedicated her professional and personal life to caring for others. She embodied compassion, strength, and quiet grace in everything she did.
She found her greatest joy in life’s simple pleasures. She LOVED to shop for anything!
After marrying the love of her life, Robert Caminade on June 7, 2003, they enjoyed every moment spent together. They were never far apart, enjoying adventures like going to the beach, taking cruises, and spending quality time with family. At home, she cherished the companionship of their cat, BEBE.
Her love was steady, gentle, and unwavering, and her presence brought comfort to those lucky enough to be part of her life.
She is survived by her stepfather, Louis Shield; brother, James Rogers and sister, Jeana Branch; daughters, Rebecca Mawyer-Napier (Reggie), Robin Caminade and son, Matthew Caminade (Cristina); Grandchildren, Candice, Brandon, Alyssa, William, Whitney, Victor, Jose, Carley, Monica, Andrew, Crystal, Jimmy, Brian, Robert Jr., Corey, and Cameron; Great-grandchildren, Oakley, Georgia, Everett, Aubrey, Anessa, Ricardo, Haizley, Nicholas, Nathaniel, Andrew, Hunter, Taylor, Logan, Phoenix and Archer.
She was preceded in death by her father, James G. Rogers and her mother, Virginia Shield; husband, Robert Caminade; sons, Winston and Robert Mawyer and daughter, Kimberly Mawyer and grandchildren, Adrian and Jenny Mawyer.
A Celebration of Betty’s Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 1, 2026 at Weymouth Funeral Home in Newport News, Virginia with a visitation to follow. Interment will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the ASPCA.
Her kindness, dedication, and love will live forever in the hearts of those she touched.
