Harriette Pitts Gritzmaker, age 88, of Williamsburg, Virginia passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 28, 2025 at Riverside Walter Reed Hospital surrounded by family.

Harriette was a graduate of Toano High School. She dedicated many years of her life to the Williamsburg Soap & Candle Factory where her warmth touched many. Later she was a Sales Clerk at Casey’s Department Store. She was devoted to her family, always offering comfort, guidance, and unconditional love. She had an unwavering spirit even in times of adversity.

Harriette was an enthusiastic fan of the Dallas Cowboys, the University of Virginia Cavaliers, and the Baltimore Orioles. She was an avid bowler and enjoyed bingo nights.

She especially loved playing canasta with her family, and treasured spending time with her dog, Barney. She will be remembered for her kindness, humor, and generosity.

Harriette was preceded in death by her parents, Miles and Ruby Pitts, and her siblings Bernice Burks, Eva Geier, Miles Pitts, Jr., Laura Matschke, and Patricia Larson.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Arthur “Art” Gritzmaker, of Williamsburg, VA; her brother, John “Jack” Pitts, of Platte, SD; and her beloved children, Robert “Cleve” Wright and daughter-in-law, Michelle, of Williamsburg, VA, Raymond “Ray” Wright and daughter-in-law, Barbie, of Norge, VA, Elizabeth “Betty” Boley of Croaker, VA, and Barbara “Diane” Jegel and son-in-law, Jim, of Lynch Station, VA.

Harriette’s legacy continues through her seven cherished grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The family also wishes to express deep gratitude to her compassionate caretaker, Alicia Caldwell.

Family and friends are invited to gather and celebrate Harriette’s life on Monday, January 5, 2026, at Olive Branch Christian Church (7643 Richmond Rd Williamsburg, VA 23188). Visitation will be held from 11 AM to 12 PM, followed by the funeral service at noon, the burial, and a reception.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to a charity of your choice.
