With deep love, and abiding faith, The Family of Rosa Mary Sams announces her peaceful transition on December 21, 2025.
Her beautiful and compassionate soul is survived by her devoted, son Nicholas B. Jones; two grandchildren, Da’shaun Da’vonte Jones, and Jordan Avonte Jones; three sisters, Connie Jones (Howard), Terry Jones-Johnson (George), Lora Johnson (Thomas), and a host of nieces, nephews, and devoted friends as well as other family members.
Rosa was born in Charles City Va on August 19, 1949, to her parents Hopkins Troy Jones and Prince Iris Elliot Jones. Rosa was the eldest of seven children. She was surrounded by dignity, pride, and a family rich in love. During her childhood, Rosa attended Ruthville High School where she graduated in 1968. She spent cherished days with her beloved family absorbing stories, traditions, and the spiritual foundation that shaped her life and continues to anchor her family today.
As a young woman Rosa began her career for city of Richmond’s Health Department, where she retired after 40 plus years of dedicated service. Along her journey her faith deepened when she was baptized as a Jehovah’s Witness. Her loving friends such as Margaret Conway, Jacqueline Stevall, Marva Williams, Gertie Elder, Amy O. Bradby and many more are just a few she leaves to honor her memory. She was preceded in eternal rest by four siblings, Troy Rodney Jones, Ruby “Penny” White, Erselle Dinh, and Marsha Hassouna.
Her hobbies included writing poetry and spending time with family. She was a true gem that will never be forgotten but will be truly missed.
