Marge Peters, 84, passed away peacefully in her sleep after a brief illness on Wednesday, November 12, 2025. She had been a resident of Hayes, Virginia since 2003.
She is survived by her husband, Joseph Peters; her sons, Daniel (Jessica) of Dallas, Texas, and Steven of Matthews, Virginia; her grandson, Seth; her goddaughter; Sarah Preusse; her brothers, Michael Penniston and Joseph Penniston and her sisters, Mary Preusse and Rita Penniston as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mary Penniston; her sister, Susan Heather, and her brother, John Penniston, Jr.
Marge grew up in St. Cloud, Minnesota. She was a 1959 graduate of Cathedral High School and a 1962 graduate of the St. Cloud School of Nursing. Joe and Marge were married in December 1962. The Army brought them and their young family to Virginia for the first time in 1966. In the many moves they all made together—from Washington State to Germany and back—Marge was an intrepid and determined Army wife. After the Army, the Peters made a home in Virginia—first in Newport News and then in Hayes.
Marge loved her career as a nurse and brought healing to many through her profession. She was a long-time member of St. Jerome Catholic Church in Newport News. She loved to travel with Joe, and she was especially fond of her poodles, Paddy and Button.
She was greatly loved and will be deeply missed by her family and her community.
