Ranny Cheatham (Weymouth Funeral Home & Crematory)

Ranny Cheatham, 90, of Newport News, VA, passed away on September 8, 2025.

Born in Newport News, Ranny moved to Hampton, where he attended Wythe Middle School and Hampton High School. He moved again in 10th grade to Lexington, NC, when his father accepted a job at Burlington Industries.

Upon completing the 10th grade, Ranny joined the Marine Corps. He attended Recruit Training in Parris Island, SC, adopting the core values of Honor, Courage and Commitment. After a 3-year Stint in the Marine Corps, Ranny returned to Hampton and became a Hampton Police Officer for three years before joining the Newport News Police Department for another three years. Subsequently, he was employed by BASF until he retired at age 55.

Not satisfied with retirement, Ranny became a licensed Real Estate Agent for the Duvall Real Estate Agency for another nine years.

Mr. Cheatham was predeceased by his loving wife, Wanda Cheatham and his sister, Nancy Waugaman. He is survived by his son, Timothy Cheatham; daughter, Debbie Waldron; grandson, Patrick Waldron; brother, Earl Cheatham (wife, Chung Cheatham); granddaughter, Katherine McCarthy as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Ranny’s love for his family, friends and woodworking will remain in our hearts forever.
