John J. “Stack” Wooten, 78, of Lanexa, VA passed away August 15, 2025 at his home, surrounded by his loved ones.
Stack had numerous jobs over the years including being a dump truck driver, owning and operating a grocery store, and eventually retiring from Phillip Morris. He enjoyed playing cards, joking with family and friends, loved everyone and always had a good time. Stack loved old vehicles and riding on back roads. He never met a stranger and loved talking to people.
Stack was preceded in death by his parents, Matthew James and Minnie Hazel Wooten; brothers, James Adam Wooten, Matthew “Cotton” Wooten, Jr. and Ricky Kenneth Wooten; sisters, Vernie Mae Blue, Jewel Whitehurst, Juanita Galloway, Vickie Galloway, Janet “Cuddy” Allen and Charlotte Ann Carneal; two great-grandsons, Jacob Austin Wooten and Michael Mark Mayes, III.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Doris Wooten; daughter, Belinda Wooten Ciejek; son, John Richard Wooten; and a beloved daughter-in-law, Heather Wooten and sister-in-law Ann Wooten; four grandchildren, Amanda Mayes, Kayla Hawkins (Cody), John Wooten (Whitney) and Savanna Wooten (Casey); six great-grandchildren; sisters, Barbara Deskins, Linda Dickens (Albert), Ruby Newbill (Monty); and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
