Vernon Alexander Burford, Jr., a devoted son, brother, and uncle, passed away on August 8, 2025, in Norfolk, Virginia, at the age of 66. Born on September 2, 1958, in Brooklyn, New York, Vernon lived a life marked by dedication to his work and passion for his many interests.
Throughout his career, Vernon served as a Census Taker, contributing to the essential task of gathering important demographic information. He also served his country with honor as a member of the United States Army, demonstrating commitment and discipline.
Vernon’s interests were varied and profound. He was an avid collector of anything associated with space, model airplanes, National Geographic magazines, and coins. These pursuits reflected his curiosity and deep appreciation for history, exploration, and the wonders of the universe.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Vernon Burford, Sr. and Edna Burford; his brother, Stewart Burford; and his aunt, Virginia Burford. He leaves behind his beloved sisters, Michaeline Yarnell and Desiree Marsden, four nieces and nephews, and one great-great-nephew, all of whom will cherish his memory and miss him dearly.
In accordance with his wishes, services will be private. To honor his memory, memorial contributions can be made to The ALS Foundation, an organization dedicated to fighting a disease that affects so many.
Vernon will be remembered for his gentle spirit, his love of learning, and his unwavering dedication to his family and passions. His presence in our lives will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
