Diane Gartside Bennett passed away peacefully in Williamsburg, Virginia. She was a devoted homemaker and teacher, who cherished her time as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Diane’s life was a testament to her dedication to family and community.
Diane graduated from Catonsville High School in Baltimore Maryland and went on to earn her bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of Maryland College Park. During her college years, she was an active member of the Delta Gamma Fraternity, where she formed lifelong friendships. Her commitment to service was evident through her involvement with the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) and the Greensboro Garden Club.
A woman of many interests, Diane found joy in rug hooking, genealogy, and traveling. These hobbies enriched her life and allowed her to connect with others who shared her passions. She was also a faithful member of the Front Street Methodist Church in Burlington, North Carolina, where she found spiritual nourishment and community.
Diane and her late husband, Tom Bennett, were longtime residents of both Sykesville, Maryland and Greensboro, North Carolina, after raising their family in Carroll County, Maryland. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.
She is survived by her son, Christopher T. Bennett and his wife, Ellen; her daughters, Cindy Jarboe and Lisa Ours; her beloved grandchildren, Nicholas (Lara) Ours, Allison (Jeremy) Barker, Kathryn (Gil) Allen, and Ashley (Matt) Wilkerson; as well as ten great-grandchildren who brought immense joy to her life.
Services to honor Diane’s life will be held on Sunday, September 14, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Bucktrout Funeral Home, 4124 Ironbound Road, Williamsburg, VA 23188. Interment will take place at a later date at Wesley Chapel in Eldersburg Maryland.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Diane’s name to the University of Maryland Alumni Association, reflecting her enduring connection to her alma mater and her commitment to education and travel.
Diane Gartside Bennett will be remembered for her warmth, grace, and unwavering love for her family and friends. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
