James Frank Coleman, 78, of Newport News

James Frank Coleman (Weymouth Funeral Home & Crematory)

James Frank Coleman, 78, born in Valley Stream, New York, passed away peacefully on July 8, 2025.

He was the beloved husband of Hae Cha “Kim” Coleman for 55 wonderful years, a love story that began when they met during his U.S. Air Force service in South Korea and continued with a lifetime of devotion. Together, they raised four sons: Rob (Jamie), Michael (Kathia), Larry, and Patrick (Megan). He was a proud grandfather to eight grandchildren: Patrick, Jacob, Lucy, Charlotte, Stacy, Stephanie, Cynthia, and Melissa.

In 1974, he moved his family from Valley Stream to Newport News, VA, where he worked with dedication and pride for 40 years at US Airways before retiring. A diehard Notre Dame football fan, he never missed a game and cheered for the Fighting Irish with passion. He also had a deep love for cooking—nothing made him happier than preparing meals for his family and sharing stories around the table.

He is survived by his sister Joann (Alex) and their children, Maria, Christina, Alex, Michael, Frank, and Thomas; and by his sister-in-law, Jeannie, wife of his late brother, Robert “Bobby” Coleman, and their sons Bobby and Daniel.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Ann Coleman, and his brother, Robert. He will be remembered for his strong spirit, generous heart, and the deep love he had for his family. His legacy lives on in all those who were blessed to know him.

A Funeral Mass will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 17, 2025 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church by Rev. Dan Beeman with Military Honors. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Boys & Girls Club of the Virginia Peninsula.
