It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Norman Sidney Smith, 76, who departed this world on Sunday, June 1, 2025, due to an unexpected illness.
Born in Lowell, MA, Norman Smith is the son of the late Mr. Harry and Florence Smith. Having such a large family, Norman’s great-aunt, Mary Anderson McDougall and her husband, Henry Taylor Carpenter, raised him, Ronnie, Raymond, and Gary together as young boys. Creating a lifelong bond between the brothers.
Norman was a beloved parent, grandparent, sibling and friend. Norman was employed by Gallagher Painting for 35 years. In 2023, Norman moved to Newport News, VA, with his brother and his family. When he wasn’t working, he loved riding his electric bike, swimming, going out to eat, playing with our dogs and just enjoying life in Virginia. He often remembered the times at his camp with his brother, Gary and his family in New Hampshire on their pontoon boat.
Norman is predeceased by five brothers, Ronald, Raymond, Donald, Robert and Richard; a sister, Marianne Smith as well as several nieces and nephews, who are all now reunited with Norman. He is survived by his brothers, Gary Smith and his wife, Virginia and David Smith; his sisters, Pamela Belanger and her husband, Donald and Deborah Smith; his daughters, Kerry Hoffart and Shelly Mendes; six grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Norman’s departure leaves a void that can never truly be filled, but his legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of all who carry Norman’s memory forward.
Rest in peace, Norman aka “Stormin’ Norman”. You will be dearly missed.
The family in Lowell, MA will be holding services at our family’s resting place at the Lowell Cemetery later this month when he is returned home.
