James Edward Medlock of James City County, VA departed this life on Friday, May 2, 2025, after a brief period of waning health.
Born January 26, 1936, in Edgefield, SC, to Wade Hampton Medlock and Maude Irene Hutchinson Medlock.
He was the fifth child of eight children, sibling of Roger Williams, Florence Irene, Robert Lee, Lois Lorene, Virginia Mae, Wade Hampton, Jr. (Griffis–adopted name, following his mother’s untimely death,) and half-sister Ruby Anne. He is predeceased and survived by many nieces and nephews.
James grew up in Edgefield, SC and never forgot his southern roots. Following a stint in the Army during the Korean conflict, he lived the majority of his adult life in the Williamsburg, Virginia area. James was a hard worker. He worked a number of years as a painter following his military service. For many years, he was also a long-distance truck driver. His last public employment was with a local recycling plant.
But to many people, James was the friendly local farmer who raised a variety of fruits and vegetables and was well-known for their delicious taste and quality. He maintained a road produce stand, and customers were eager to enjoy the fruits of his labor. James is also remembered fondly for hosting many family reunions at his home in James City County.
James will be missed by family and friends.
