Clarence McNeil Jones, affectionately called “Sonny”, was born on July 4, 1953 to the late Ruth Binford Dobson and Mack Johnson. He departed this earthly life after a brief illness, on Sunday, April 27, 2025 at Johnson Willis Hospital in Richmond VA. Surrounded by his children.
At an early age, Sonny was raised by his devoted Aunt Madeline Jones along with siblings and cousins. And through that upbringing and love for God, he was baptized at Cedar Grove Baptist Church in Charles City VA.
Sonny was educated in Charles City Public Schools and perused his love for welding through the Newport News Shipyard, where he gained employment.
Sonny was definitely a “free spirit” and had a tremendous love for animals and the outdoors. Many has probably seen him with his beloved horse “Felicia”. The one hobby he loved the most, was his love for fishing, which he passed on to his children. During the warmer months, you could always find him with at least one of them on some pier, casting his line.
Sonny was preceded in death by his parents, his brother (Vaughan Dobson), and his beloved firstborn son (LeMans McNeil).
He leaves to cherish his memories, his children, DeAndrew Jones , LaTasha Brown (Lee) and Shareka Wyche, six grandchildren (Yaz’mine, Roman, Lee III, Jai’ona, Javonne, Jackie. Siblings, Shirley Mae Jeffries, Theresa Dobson, Daphne Rainey, Robert Jones (Linda), Edward Dobson, Alonzo Dobson. Host of other relatives, friends and “bonus” goddaughter, Cierra Collins.
