Janet Ann (Taylor) Tullis, 84, of Williamsburg, Virginia passed away on April 5, 2025.
Janet was born in Paducah, Kentucky in 1940 as the oldest of three sisters. As a child, she spent time on the family farm, and this fostered her love of gardening and growing vegetables for her family. Janet liked to tell the story of attending a dance at her high school where a young and unknown Kentucky singer named Elvis Presly played in their gymnasium. Janet excelled at school and obtained a nursing scholarship and received her degree from Murray State.
While working as a nurse in Kentucky, she met a friend of her roommate’s named Frank Tullis and they married in Kentucky and started their newlywed life in Arizona. While stationed in Germany, she had her first child, Sandra Jane and had her second child, Anne Francis, while stationed in Florida. Despite moving around the world, raising a family and working part time as the children got older, Janet found time to get a Bachelor’s degree in Health Care Administration.
She and Frank spent time together playing tennis and, after moving West to California, they become avid golfers. Jan and Frank ultimately retired to Williamsburg where Jan volunteered at the animal shelter for many years. Jan could often be found enjoying a good book, with one of her many, many cats on her lap.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Frank.
She was a caregiver to friends and family and her heart and compassion will be missed by all.
