Timothy “Tim” Pugh, 66, of Norfolk, VA, set sail for his next great adventure on February 12, 2025.
Born on July 31, 1958, to Harold and Ann Pugh, Tim was a man who lived life on his own terms—often with a fishing rod in one hand and a cold drink in the other. After a few years of college, he found his true calling in service, volunteering with the Kempsville Rescue Squad before taking the helm as president of the family business, UniWay, founded in 1972. With a mind as sharp as his wit, he had a knack for numbers and an uncanny ability to help fellow ocean lovers finance their dream boats.
In his late 30s, Tim met his perfect match, Tammy, and together they built a family full of love, laughter, and a little bit of mischief. Aaron and Ryan may have been his stepsons by title, but Tim never saw it that way—he was their dad, through and through. Whether he was taking them fishing, getting tricked into a trip to Kings Dominion under the pretense of a “boat show,” or leading the charge on legendary family camping trips, Tim made every moment an adventure. And let’s not forget his cooking—this man could grill and smoke anything to perfection, from oysters and crabs to prime rib, all while keeping the cocktails flowing and the jokes coming.
Tim had a personality as big as his golf obsession—because, oh boy, did he love to golf. He never asked for help (even when he probably should have) and had a special talent for stirring up stereo wars with the neighbors. A proud Parrot Head, he knew that life was best lived with good music, good company, and a solid tee time.
He’s now reunited with his parents, Harold and Ann Pugh; his uncle, Lawrence Pugh; his aunt, Stella Thomas; and his beloved four-legged companions, Taj, Bailey, and Tebow. Meanwhile, his legacy lives on through his bride, Tammy Pugh; his sons, Aaron (Sarah) Walch and Ryan (Claire) Walch; his grandkids, Parker and Rylee, who will always cherish their “Papa” and his legendary stories; his stepdaughter, Cara Bolick, and her daughter, Hattie Coufalik; his sister, Nancy (Pete) Lichty; his nephew, Chad (Jennifer) Franklin; and his great-niece, Taylor Franklin. His loyal German Shorthaired Pointers, Aubrey Ann and Tucker, will think of him every time they take a flying leap into the pool this summer.
So next time you hear Aerosmith’s “Walk This Way,” crank it up and send a toast Tim’s way—he’d want you to.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, February 17, at Community United Methodist Church 1072 Old Kempsville Rd, Va Beach, Va 23464 at 2:00pm.
