Lance Corporal Daniel Lee Smith, 75, passed away at home on October 11th in Lanexa, VA.
Son of Mary and Eddie Smith, he was born February 12, 1949, in Bena, VA.
He entered the USMC in 1968 and proudly served during Vietnam, though stationed mainly in Oceanside CA. He worked as a master level welder most of his life where he truly found lasting friends that became his second family.
During his “retirement” years he traveled with his wife and dog from the west coast to the east coast. He loved his journeys, exploring historical sites, and meeting interesting people in campgrounds all over the United States. While we are sad, we are grateful that heaven just gained its next honorable angel.
He was preceded to heaven by his mother, father, siblings, unborn child, and unborn grandchild.
He is survived by his loving wife and mother of his children, Estelle Smith of Matthews, VA; their children: Sabrena Powell of Matthews, VA, Daniel Smith II of Tonopah, AZ and wife Crystal, John Mullineaux of Clifton Forge, and Eric Smith of VA; his brother Joe Smith of Spotsylvania, VA and wife Betty; nine grandchildren: Christopher Clevinger, Samantha Clevinger, SSGT John Williams, Garrett Williams, Brandon Powell, Jeremiah Smith, Alexis Smith, Jaxon Mullineaux, and Blake Mullineaux, and five great grandchildren; Melody, Lucas, Stormie, Reina, and expected baby Powell. He also leaves behind his faithful canine companion, that he lovingly called “Peppy Dog.”
Daniel was a devoted husband, a cherished father, an extraordinary grandfather, brother, and friend. His passing was sudden and but quick, just like he always hoped it would be.
