Carl Leon Linville (Nelsen Funeral Home)

Carl Leon Linville, age 88, of Williamsburg, VA passed away on Thursday, October 10, 2024.

He was born in Wayne County, TN on November 9, 1935, and is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Calvin Linville and Lillian Lucille Lee; grandparents, Henry Lee and Bethel Hill Lee; and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins of Wayne County that he treasured and visited frequently during his life.

In 1954, he graduated from Collinwood High School in Wayne County, TN and then in 1962, furthered his education with the Navy as an Electronic Technician.

Carl was proud of his two tours totaling eight years of service with the Navy before transferring to civil service for the Department of Defense, Naval Weapons Station, where he rose to Supervisory Electronic Technician for 34 years. Of note, Carl was recognized for his dedication to his job and country receiving multiple awards and commendations, including the Equal Employment Opportunity Award as the most distinguished supervisor. For many years, he was also active with the WPNSTA retirees serving as Vice President.

He was dedicated to the Williamsburg Host Lions Club for over 40 years, serving as president in 1991. He was most proud of the service work he was active in and treasured the friendships of his fellow Lions. Carl also practiced the Baptist faith and was known to enjoy intellectual conversations surrounding faith and religion with family and friends.

Carl enjoyed boating and fishing with friends and family. An avid golfer for many years, he loved going on golf trips with his friends and coworkers. His love was the “Big Orange Country” of Tennessee. Carl was rarely seen without a “Big Orange” University of Tennessee hat and followed the UT Volunteers avidly. He also loved NASCAR and took trips to various racetracks over the years. Through all his years, he loved his Chevrolet trucks and driving home to see family in Tennessee.

Carl is survived by his wife of 62 years, Carol Ann Brenegan Linville; daughters, Carla Linville White (Rob) and Nan Linville Piland (Rob); grandchildren, James Logan White, Reagan Elizabeth White, and Leighton Nancy Mascari (Quentin). His first great-grandchild is due in March of 2025.

The legacy he left us was his quiet, inquisitive nature that always checked in on his friends and family, and his dry sense of humor. He cared deeply for those he loved, especially for children and young adults as they started to find their own paths, and he was very proud of his children and grandchildren in their life endeavors.

A visitation for Carl will be held Thursday, October 17, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd., Williamsburg, where the funeral service will also occur Friday, October 18, 2024 at 10:00 AM.
