Donald L. Wynne, 89, died on October 10, 2024. He was born in Missouri and raised by his parents the late Dorothy and Lyle Wynne and preceded in death by his sisters Lois and Joanne.
Donald was incredibly proud of his service in the United States Navy where he achieved the rank of Gunners Mate Guns Chief. He served for 20 years before retiring. Desiring to continue his service to his nation and community he began a job at Norfolk Naval Shipyard. There he was a machinist for 20 more years before retiring from that position.
He would say his greatest achievement was his family. He was married for 54 years to the love of his life, Dorothy Julia Wynne who preceded him in death. Together they raised four children; James F. Wynne (Corrina) who preceded him in death, David A. Wynne, Stephen R. Wynne (Marjorie), and Theresa M. Zirkle (Robert). His favorite times were spent helping to raise his grandchildren; Michael L. Bognar (Crystal), Michelle L. Bognar (Terryn), Christopher L. Wynne (Megan), and Crystal N. Wynne.
During his life he was a member of Kempsville Church of Christ, the Fraternal Order of th4e Eagles Lodge 3204.
A visitation will be held at Altmeyer Funeral Home on October 19th from 9:00 am – 10:00 am with a memorial service to follow at 10:00 am. A reception will follow at his son, Steve Wynne’s house at 4428 Chelsea Street, Virginia Beach, Virginia 23455. A burial service with military honors will be held at Albert G. Horton, Jr., Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk, VA at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that either a tree be donated in his name or memorial donations be made to the Davis Corner Volunteer Rescue Squad.
