Iris Barco Resnick, 79, of Chesapeake

Iris Barco Resnick of Chesapeake, VA died on September 25, 2024 following a long illness. She was born November 17, 1944 in Elizabeth City, NC to the late Ralph and Norma Barco.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 45 years, Dr. Robert Resnick, two children, David Ballance of San Jose, CA, Deborah Kipp (Richard) of Lynchburg, VA, two stepchildren, Tracy Hayes (Gordon) of Burlington, VT, Scott Resnick (Lori) of Spring Lake, NC, and five grandchildren, Kiteara, Brenden, Alexis, Miranda and Josh. She is also survived by her sister Barbara Hart and her brother, Randy Barco as well as niece Pam Hart and nephews Michael Hart and Benjamin Barco. In addition, coming from very large families on both sides, she leaves many loving cousins and their children. They were a great source of joy and comfort during her lifetime.

Professionally, Iris graduated from Broome Community College where she was inducted into Phi Theta Kappa National Honor Society, Randolph Macon Women’s College (summa cum laude) with a BA degree in art history and Lynchburg College with a Masters degree in family counseling and was a member of the Chi Sigma Iota international counseling honors society.

Besides her interest in art and counseling, Iris pursued many interests. She held a GIA certificate in gemology, a real estate license, an Opticianry license and an Associates degree in Business Administration from SUNY Albany.

Even more than these professional interests, she loved her family and friends, playing bridge, reading and travelling.

There will be a gathering of friends and family at the Virginia Beach Altmeyer, 5033 Rouse Dr., Virginia Beach from 1-4 on October 7, 2024. A memorial service will be held at a later date when she is interred at Arlington National Cemetery.
