Early Sunday morning, September 22, 2024, Cheryl departed this world and went to be with Jesus in Heaven. She was born on July 4, 1963, in Washington, D.C, and thought everyone had fireworks on their birthday!
Cheryl was truly one of God’s angels on earth. Despite being born with a rare birth condition, resulting in an extensive medical history, she was very comfortable with her life. She had an outgoing personality and loved being with people of all ages. She had a loving, caring disposition, and a smile that lit up the room.
She loved going to school and riding the school bus. One morning she was not feeling well and it was decided that she should stay home that day. Her response was “But I will feel better when I get to school.” Going to church was a big part of her life. Family time was always a happy time for her.
She was preceded in death by her father, Jack H. Thompson, LTC USA, Ret. and many aunts and uncles. She is survived by her mother, Mary Louise Thompson, her sister, Elizabeth Stabnow, her niece, Jacqueline Stabnow, lifelong friend, Shannon Beauchamp, and many extended family members.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Warwick Memorial United Methodist Church, 38 Hoopes Rd., Newport News, VA 23602 at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, October 5, 2024. Burial will be in Wabash, IN next to her beloved Father, at a later date.
The family is asking in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to Warwick Memorial United Methodist Church. Also, expressions of sympathy can be mailed to the Thompson Family at that address.
It would be impossible to thank the hundreds of people who have touched her life, many of whom we never knew. Cheryl lived at St. Francis Nursing Home, now Old Dominion Rehabilitation and Nursing Home, for nine years. She was cared for by many good, dedicated people who loved her. It was her “Happy Place” and she loved living there. We sincerely thank each one of you.
