Patrick Alan Martin, age 71, of Knotts Island, NC (Gibbs Woods), passed away on Thursday, August 29, 2024.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Judith Louise (Cahoon) Martin; his daughter Erica Lea Lane; granddaughter McKaela Danielle Villatorro (Oscar) and grandson Billy Lee Lane, III “Trae” (Claira). He was born in Cairo, IL and leaves behind two sisters, four brothers and a host of nieces and nephews. He will forever be missed by his best friends JW and Anne Askew.
As a young man served in the United States Navy. He treasured the opportunity to shake the hand of a veteran every chance he could to show his appreciation for their services. Driving trucks was his favorite career. His favorite memory was driving new trucks fresh off the Ford assembly line for test drive across the country.
He will be remembered by his family for having an endless amount of creativity. He loved leaving sticky notes around the house for his wife to find that said “I love you.” He loved sketching art, painting with watercolors, carving ducks, and writing poetry.
He enjoyed fishing, golf, and spending countless hours in the local DAV Thrift Store. He often took it upon himself to find great deals and had a generous heart in always buying things for others. Everyone knew to use caution when saying we “loved” a particular item and will treasure his thoughtfulness forever knowing he always kept us in mind. He was no stranger to breaking for a yard sale sign or lemonade stand. If you really knew him, you knew also had a passion for throwing popcorn in a movie theater.
The family has asked in lieu of flowers to please consider one of the following:
- Donate to the Currituck County Animal Shelter at 140 Aviation Parkway, Barco, NC 27917.
- Spend a day shopping at your local thrift store and send the family a picture of your great find!
- Go see a movie together and maybe “toss” a few pieces of popcorn in your mouth.
