Donna June Ostrom Crandall, known to family as “Mamoo”, 96, formerly of Lansing, Michigan, passed away Friday, August 16, 2024.
Donna was born on June 19, 1928 to the late Milton and Rhea Ostrom. Her formative years were spent in the local school districts of Lansing and culminated in a PhT from Michigan State College. Upon moving to Virginia, she became a member of Tabernacle United Methodist Church in Barhamsville, VA. She was an active, long running member, until she moved to Williamsburg.
Donna was a loving and very involved mother and friend. She participated in many activities as her children were growing up including 4-H, Cub Scout Den Mother, and chaperone on many of their field trips. Donna loved people, laughter, and gleefully volunteered for many different places including Ft. Eustis. She worked for Burns Security which handled events such as NASCAR Races, the State Fair and Kings Mill Golf Tournaments. She also loved reading, singing, crafting, square dancing, making flower arrangements for all occasions, and sewing things for family and herself. She lovingly and patiently taught many to sew, bake, and cook. She would try new recipes, but then make them her own with a few changes, including a family favorite, Mamoo Cookies.
Donna retired to Williamsburg Landing, where she made a lot of new friends. While there, she enjoyed Bingo and meals with the friends she had made. Her love, caring spirit, and friendship will be missed by many.
Donna was preceded in death by her husband, Max “Papoo” Crandall; parents, Milton and Rhea Ostom; brother, Robert Ostrom, and sister, Ruth Ann Lawyer.
She is survived by her children, Carole Hughes (Jim), Michael (Pam), Jill McDaniel, and Patrick (Donna); eight grandchildren; her sister, Phyllis Chucta, and many great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
