Robert Ray Circle, 89, of Lanexa, VA passed away July 12, 2024.
He was born June 19, 1935 to the late, Gertrude and Ray Circle.
Robert earned a degree in physics from Kansas State University, after which he joined Westinghouse Air Brake, earning various patents for non-arcing high-voltage relays. He also aided in research in X-Ray diffusion of Radioactive isotopes. Robert’s career in physics and electrical engineering continued at the Naval Research Lab, Spacecraft Technology Division, and was marked by innovation and excellence. His contributions to the field were numerous, and his work ethic was unparalleled.
Robert was a devoted family man. Married for 52 beautiful years to Jean Alice, he and his wife built a loving home and successfully raised three sons, Robert E. Circle, David N. Circle, and Richard W. Circle, instilling in them the same values that guided his life. After Jean Alice’s passing in 2011, he remarried Patricia Dressler of Lanexa, Virginia. He remained in Lanexa with Patty, while living next door to her son, Steve Dressler, and sister-in-law, Virginia Dessler, until his passing on July 12.
Robert’s legacy lies not only in his professional accomplishments but also in the love and wisdom he imparted to his family. His strength, kindness, and unwavering support will be deeply missed, but forever remembered. As we say goodbye, we celebrate a life well lived and a man who touched the hearts of all who knew him.
Robert is survived by his wife, Patty Dressler; his sons, Robert E. Circle, David N. Circle and Richard W. Circle; his grandchildren, Marcy J. Circle and Karen L. Circle; and last, but not least, Steve and Virginia Dressler.
We will deeply miss his humor, wisdom and intelligence. Rest in peace, Robert R. Circle. Your memory will live on in our hearts.
A graveside service will be held 3 p.m., Sunday, August 4 at Williamsburg Memorial Park.
