James Steptoe Vible, aged 74, passed away on July 19, 2024. A devoted serviceman and cherished father, James left an indelible mark through his unwavering commitment to his country, his family, and his friends.
James bravely served his nation in the Marine Corps and Army, including two tours of duty in Vietnam. His commendable military career was decorated with numerous honors, including the Army Service Ribbon/Overseas Service Ribbon (3), NCO Professional Development Ribbon (3), Good Conduct Medal (5th award), Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Multi National Defense Forces and Observers Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Vietnam Meritorious Unit Commendation, and the Vietnam Gallantry Cross w/ Palm (Unit Citation).
An avid lover of history, James found joy in writing poetry and cherished the company of his friends and family.
James is preceded in death by his father, Linwood Vible, and his mother, Mary Lou Fenimore. He is survived by his former spouse, Laurette M. Cormier, and their children: Tracey L. Hallman (Jonathan), AnnMarie Spatharakis (George), and James B. Vible (Lucia). He is also survived by his former spouse, Vera Ando-Winstead, and their child, Michael E. Vible (Mary); his former spouse, Linda Brooke, and their child, Lindsey N. Vible. His legacy extends to his beloved grandchildren: Andrew, Meghan, Jillian, Aristidis (PID), Natalie, Isabella, Delaney, and Wyatt.
A memorial service will be held for James on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at 1 p.m. at St. Bede’s Catholic Church, located at 3686 Ironbound Road, Williamsburg, VA 23188. Deacon Bill Westerman will preside over the ceremony.
In lieu of gifts or flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to St. Bede’s Catholic Church in memory of James Steptoe Vible. His spirit and contributions will forever be remembered by those who had the honor of knowing him.
