Robert Somers, known as Bud to family and friends, graduated from life on July 21, 2024.
Born September 28, 1931, in Detroit, Michigan, he graduated from Michigan State University after serving in the Army.
In his career, he served as Building Director in James City County when Busch Gardens, Water Country and Kingsmill were being built. He worked in the York County Building
Department and with the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation overseeing the construction of the Jamestown Education Building and Visitor’s Center. His most significant achievements were his family and the home he designed and built for them in Queens Lake.
He leaves his beloved wife of 64 years, Ellen; and children, Patti Flanary (Steve), Elizabeth Faulkner (Dean), and Robert Somers, Jr. (Scott), 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
He will be remembered for his kind heart, playful spirit and love for those in his life.
A graveside service will be held at Bruton Parish Church on Monday, July 29, at 1 p.m.
