Carol Gwynne Stano, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 6, 2024, in Williamsburg, VA.

Carol was a devoted servant of the Lord, dedicating her talents and time to First Lutheran for many years. From 1984 until 1999, she served as the Parish Assistant, where she championed education for both children and adults. Her ministries for women were particularly memorable, as she organized numerous programs and gatherings for the women of First Lutheran. One of her cherished contributions was “Terrific Tuesdays,” a program designed to bring children together to learn about Jesus.

In addition to her work at First Lutheran, Carol also made significant contributions to the Southeastern District of Missouri Synod. She was instrumental in organizing Pastor’s Wives Retreats and leading LWML Retreats. Carol was an active participant in Stephen Ministry, where she served as a Stephen Leader, offering support and care to those in need.

Outside of her church activities, Carol was an avid reader who shared her love of literature with various book clubs within the church and her neighborhood. Her passion for the theater was another defining characteristic; she enjoyed sharing this love with her husband, Les, and granddaughter, Kendall. Carol’s love for the Lord and all His creation was evident in the way she lived her life.

Carol was also a talented artist who saw beauty in everyone and everything. Over the past decade, she painted numerous watercolors and acrylics, generously sharing her gift with many.

Carol was a member of King of Glory Lutheran Church in Williamsburg, VA, where she continued to serve her faith community.

She is preceded in death by her parents, J. Charles and M. Catherine Schilling, and her mother-in-law, Anna Stano. Carol is survived by her loving husband, Lester P. Stano; her daughter, Laurie L. Snyder, and her husband, Phillip J. Snyder; her cherished granddaughter, Kendall Leigh Snyder; and her sister, Kathy Schilling Fetner, and her husband Bob; and a host of nieces and nephews.
