Sandy, an avid traveler, having visited all 7 continents, began her final journey on Saturday July 6, 2024.
Sandy was born January 19,1938 in Lincoln, Nebraska to Edwin and Virginia Reynolds. She graduated from Heidelberg American High School, Heidelberg, Germany in 1956 and the University of Missouri in 1960 with a major in Elementary Education. She was an alumni of Alpha Phi.
Sandy was an elementary school teacher in Virginia for 31 years, 27 of which were at Windsor Woods Elementary School in Virginia Beach. She retired in 2000.
Sandy volunteered at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital since 2000 and the Virginia Aquarium and Marine Science Center since 2001. Sandy served as Secretary on the Board of the hospital Auxiliary. She was a past member of the Starfish Circle for Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters.
Sandy was married to Dandridge H. Yon from February 11,1961 until his death in 1999.
Sandy is survived by her son, Dandridge H. Yon, Jr, his wife Patricia of Virginia Beach; grandson Christopher of Austin, Texas; granddaughters Leslie Mitts, Haw River, North Carolina and Jenifer von Gillern of Virginia Beach and 4 great-grandchildren. Sandy is also survived by her brothers Edwin and sister-in-law Sheri Reynolds of Charlottesville, Virginia and Jay and sister-in-law Terry Reynolds of North Carolina as well as her sister-in-law Sallie Williams of Virginia Beach.
At Sandy’s instructions, there will be no memorial service.
She will be interred at Princess Anne Memorial Park beside her loving husband Dan.
