Ralph Powers, born on September 14, 1943, in Virginia, passed away peacefully at his home in Chesapeake, Virginia, on June 8, 2024, at the age of 80.
Ralph is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Lou Powers; his mother, Ella Powers; and his father, William Powers are reunited with their nine beloved children.
Ralph faithfully served his country in the U.S. Army prior to his career at the Ford plant. Ralph dedicated over 40 years of his life working at the Ford plant, where he undertook a variety of roles with unwavering commitment and diligence. Outside of his professional life, Ralph had numerous interests that brought him great joy. He enjoyed the tranquility of fishing, loved watching drag races, enjoyed golf, had a special passion for the NY Yankees and Redskins. Ralph’s love for sports lead him to dedicate time to teaching baseball and softball, imparting not just skills but also values of teamwork and perseverance to the younger generation.
A man of impeccable style, Ralph was known as a snappy dresser and when he spoke people listened, whether you wanted to or not. In his younger years he also had a profound love for gardening, particularly for maintaining his front yard, where the lines were always perfectly straight and you would often find him sitting in his chair in front of his garage watching his pretty green grass grow.
Ralph’s faith was a cornerstone of his life; he loved the Lord deeply and carried his faith with grace and humility.
He is survived by his beloved doggy Nugget, daughter Janie Hill (Jimmy), his son Joe Joe, his daughter Durinda Carlyle, his granddaughter Jordyn Hill, his grandson Anthony Malbon Jr, and his cherished great-granddaughter Penelope Malbon. Also mourning his loss are his devoted companion Normida Sadsad, sisters-in-law Betty Demsey and Pennie Simmons, and his closest friend Doris Brickhouse.
The family will receive friends during a visitation on Monday, June 17, 2024, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Altmeyer Chesapeake Chapel. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at Altmeyer Funeral Home Chesapeake Chapel, with interment to follow at Rosewood Memorial Park.
Ralph Powers will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His legacy of dedication, love for family, and zest for life will forever be remembered.
