On May 17, 2024, Dabney lost his courageously fought battle with cancer. For his friends who do not know, Dabney fought hard and did not want to leave his wife and family, his military vehicle association, and his family at the VFW Post 10657. Bingo on Wednesday’s will never be the same. Dabney’s family thanks everyone for the love, compassion, and heartfelt outpouring of support.
Dabney was proud of his life accomplishments and of his profession as a Master Pattern Maker who was sought out for projects both in Virginia and Pennsylvania. As a young lad, Dabney’s interests included tearing things apart and figuring out how to put them back together, guns, vehicles, and all things military. He drew the high card and was not drafted but that did not deter his appreciation for the miliary. As past president of the Virginia Military Vehicle Association and a member of the VFW Auxiliary he organized and participated in many military events. Dabney was always excited to participate in military appreciation events at Mission BBQ and driving his vehicle in parades.
Dabney was preceded in death by his parents Elmo and Cassie Cowger. He is survived by his loving and ever steadfast wife, Mary Catherine Oates Cowger, his sister Deborah Cowger Seitz and her daughter, Jamie and grandson, Cullen. Dabney is also survived by his Godson, Kevin Gay and too many loving relatives to mention.
While we prayed for more time, we were blessed to have God release Dabney from his pain and to have God receive him in His Glory.
A Visitation will be at Vincent Funeral Home, 9923 Pocohontas Trail, Providence Forge, VA, 23140; on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, beginning at 2:30 PM with a Memorial Service being held at 3:00 PM.
