Lynda Blanks (Young) passed away on April 20, 2024, in Virginia Beach, VA, at the age of 76. She was born on December 8, 1947, in Petersburg, VA.
Lynda was a special education teacher at Southeastern Elementary School in Chesapeake, VA, and later became an adjunct professor at Old Dominion University. She touched the lives of many students and families.
Lynda was a master teacher and a lifelong learner who loved children, animals, music, and reading. She was an enthusiastic volunteer with children’s organizations and shared her love for opera, classical music, and children’s literature with many. An avid walker, Lynda could often be seen strolling through the streets of Ghent with her beloved dogs.
She is survived by her daughters, Brooke Blanks and Ann Carter Blanks Schilli, her grandsons, Logan Apfel and Joshua Schilli, her brother Lawrence W. Young and his family, her sister Teresa Young Taylor and her family, as well as other relatives and friends. Lynda was preceded in death by her father, William L. Young, and her mother, Nanny Jeannette Young.
Lynda worshipped at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Chesapeake, VA. Her hobbies included walking and reading, which brought her joy and relaxation.

Funeral services are at St. Elizabeth’s Episcopal Church 2339 Grandin Road Roanoke Virginia 24015 at 11 a.m. on May 7, 2024. Lynda will be laid to rest at Evergreen Burial Park in Roanoke, Va.
