George Tarry McCracken, 93, of West Point, Virginia, passed away on April 12, 2024. Born on April 10, 1931, in South Boston, VA, George was a loving husband, father and esteemed member of his community.
A man of many talents and interests, George was an artist, musician and a craftsman of brass instruments. His passion for learning led him to be a scholar in various fields. He was a devoted family man, survived by his children Mark, Martha, Robin, grandchildren Ben, Sam, Erin, David, Emily, Brittany, Connor, Matthew, Megan and great – grandchildren Nathan, Andrew, Kasey, Henry, Mable, Jaden, Parker and Mason. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen and daughter Deborah.
George served in the Navy for 5 years, embodying the values of service and dedication. After his military service, he pursued a successful career at King Musical Instruments for 15 years and then at GMC Brass for 43 years.
A man of faith, George worshipped at Trinity Cathedral in Cleveland, OH, and St. John’s Episcopal Church in West Point, Virginia.
George’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. May he rest in peace.
