Diane Adkins Canaday, 81, of Charles City, Va. went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on April 8, 2024.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Leon; son, Howie; grandson, Devin Holmes; parents, P.A. and Rosette Adkins; sisters, Janice and Janet Adkins, Sheila Jones; brother Luther Adkins.

She is survived by her daughters, Angela Adkins and her husband Peter, Daphne Holmes and her husband Darrin; grandchildren, Zach and his wife Shauneal, Allison, Dustin and his wife Samantha, Vanessa; one great-grandson, Elijah, arriving soon; brother, Gerald Adkins and Stephanie; sisters Helen Adkins, Marcia Estes and her husband Charles; sisters in law, Gail Adkins, Irese Whitehead, Kathleen Canaday, Norma Holmes and her fiancé Jesse; brothers in law, Alvin and his wife Maurica, Leslie and his wife Juanita, Horace, Clayton and his wife Velma, Glenn; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Diane was a trusted and valued employee of Adkins Store for over 40 years and was also a school bus driver for Charles City County Public Schools for many years. She loved to garden, work outside, take care of her fish and pond, do DIY projects, jigsaw puzzles, and work word search books. She also loved to spend time with her family, especially having dinner with them every Sunday evening. Diane was known for her cooking, particularly her rice pudding, chocolate cake, potato salad, peanut butter cookies, and cornmeal cakes. She was and will always be loved by her family, who will miss her very much.

A visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 11 at Vincent Funeral Home, 9923 Pocahontas Trail, Providence Forge, Va 23140. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 12 at Samaria Baptist Church, 8310 Lott Cary Rd Providence Forge, Va. 23140. Interment to follow at the church cemetery.
