Larry Jerome Moore, 73, of Williamsburg

Larry Jerome Moore (Whiting’s Funeral Home)

As the sun began to rise on September 30, 1950, Larry Jerome Moore was introduced to the Moore family as the fourth sibling of Charles and Evangeline Moore. Larry did not hesitate to make his presence known as he grew up on York Street surrounded by aunts, uncles, and his favorite grandmother Harriette Parker.

At an early age, Larry accepted the call of Christ and followed his calling all of his life. He was baptized by the age of ten and was ministering all over Williamsburg and parts of Virginia by the time he graduated, with his Aunt BeBe following his every move. Larry graduated in 1968 from James Blair High School. He furthered his education at the Virginia Union University, pursuing a degree in Religious Studies. He was later licensed to preach by the Commonwealth of Virginia. Larry was gainfully employed as one of the very few African American men employed by Virginia Power in a managerial position back in the early 70’s.

Larry’s path took him away from the Williamsburg area for many years, and like so many other families, contact was lost, but God had a way of bringing him home. As with so many others, Larry returned different. The onset of mental illness had affected Larry in many ways. We believe it would be his prayer to pray for those who are suffering.

Larry is preceded in death by his parents, Charles, Sr. and Evangeline Moore, and older brother, Charles “Tony” Moore.

To cherish his memory are siblings, Donald “Butch” Moore of Williamsburg and Dianne Moore Gilbert of Newport News, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, classmates, and friends.

We express our sincere appreciation and thanks to the staff of Golden Years Assisted Living, Hampton, VA, Sentara ICU/Palliative Care, and Old Dominion Rehabilitation & Nursing Home for the quality of care extended to Larry. At 11:15 a.m., March 25, 2024, God dispatched His angels to carry Larry home. Rest our brother in peace.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 6, 2024, in Cedar Grove Cemetery.

“The Lord is with you.
His angels are surrounding you
and our prayers have carried your spirit to
your resting place.”
