Gilbert Preston, 72, known to all who loved him as Keith, passed away in his home on February 19, 2024. Keith built his house in 1984 with precision and intent, as he did most things. The accomplishment of building the house while simultaneously working night shift was something he took great pride in.
Raised in Mathews, VA, Keith was actively involved in his community then and later in life. He served as president of the Mathews High School SCA, on the Mathews Volunteer Rescue Squad, and the Oriental Lodge No. 20. He was an active member of Shady Grove Hunt Club and Warwick Moose Lodge #1711.
Keith spent 40 years as a forklift operator for Anheuser Busch, known for his unfaltering work ethic and commitment to doing things the right way. Outside of work, he relished life’s simple pleasures – hunting, fishing, and NASCAR – through which he forged many valued friendships.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Thomas Preston, Jr., and his mother, Georgie Lee Hudgins. He is survived by his sons, Ben Preston (Lynsey Leib) and Andy Preston (girlfriend Aspacia “CC” Anagianis); his brother, Wayne Preston (Sandra Preston) and sister, Brenda Lewis (Mark Lewis); three nephews and one niece, and ex-wife, Carol Preston.
Please join the family to celebrate Keith’s memory at Warwick Moose Lodge (1711 Warwick Moose Lane, Newport News, VA 23606) on Saturday, February 24, 2024, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Dress is casual.
